Meet Us

Our main goal is to provide a truly customized experience for all of our clients. One thing that sets our business apart from other kayak schools and adventure companies is that our group of staff is small, so you won't be left wondering who your instructor will be when you show up for a trip.

Owner, Sara Bell

After managing and instructing for Pisgah Whitewater, Sara turned the small kayak school into Green River Adventures, thrilled about filling a niche in the whitewater market for truly customized experiences.  She lives in the Green River Gorge, right on the river, with her husband Tim, 5 year old wild child, Finn and their new baby, Hurley.

Our 2009 Whitewater Kayak Instructors, River Guides, and Staff

Our instructors come to us with a wealth of experience teaching whitewater kayaking. They love what they do, professionally and personally. We are finding that Green River kayak instructors are raising the bar in the kayak instruction industry. They are what keep our clients coming back year after year!

Our guides are all seeking careers in the Outdoor Leadership industry, are talented, experienced kayakers, and pumped about showing you how much fun a whitewater trip can be!

Ben is a world traveler in every sense of the word....and every summer the Green River calls him home.  He is our lead instructor for Rapid Experiences, and is in high demand when he's not on the road with our kayaking teenagers.  Ben graduated with a degree in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education.  He spent this winter teaching Environmental Education to inner city kids in Los Angeles.

Lee is originally from Greenville, South Carolina and has a long history on the Green River.  She started kayaking 11 years ago at a local summer camp, learning the basics on the Lower Green.  Now you can find her crashing through class V rapids on the infamous "Narrows" section of the Green.  She just graduated from Sewanee, and we are psyched to have her back for her second year at Green River Adventures.

Gabriel's favorite thing about the Green River is the community of outdoor enthusiasts that love the river.  He is a naturally gifted kayaker that paddles year round.  His kayak instruction clinics are high-energy and tons of fun.  His enthusiasm for the sport make him a favorite of Green River clients.

Adam is usually who you'll talk to when you call to book your trip.  Be sure to tell him he should consider growing his beard back! He's an all around outdoor enthusiast with a knack for getting kayakers to work hard....not an easy task! He's currently finishing up his Education degree at UNCA.  He lives in Asheville with his Kiwi wife Vicki.

This face can get anyone at Green River smiling.....this is Tim at the base of a 30' ft waterfall in Costa Rica.  His talent and passion for whitewater started 17 years ago at Camp Carolina. Tim teaches our advanced kayak instruction clinics, trains our river guides in the spring, and leads our international kayaking expeditions to Costa Rica. He lives in the Green River Gorge with his wife Sara and their 4 year old Finn.  When he's not on the river he's creating masterpieces...check out his furniture designs www.timbelldesigns.com.

Jake is starting his Adventure Tourism career with us, after putting in time as an intern this winter.  His enthusiasm and talent for kayaking are evident when guiding trips.

Travis is a senior in the Wilderness Leadership program at Brevard College, where he is an assistant kayak instructor.  He always has a smile on his face, and loves working on the river.

When he's not wrangling chickens, Scott can back a trailer like no other.  He loves the river community and is thrilled to become a part of the Green River family after moving here from the Ocoee River in Tennessee.  He runs an organic farm in Tryon, NC when he's not acting as our "transportation coordinator".

We start 'em young....Seth is joining us this summer to learn the ropes of being a professional river guide.  We're not sure if his dad is happy about that or not! When you come on a trip with us, you're in luck if Seth is on your trip with his camera.  He's a talented photographer and videographer.

Meet the youngest member of our crew....Finn Bell, seen here with his "grandma", Woody Calloway, in his custom kayak from Liquid Logic.  It may be a few years before he's showing you the best lines through a rapid....but this wild man runs the show already.  When you come in for your trip, give him a high five!
